RIVAF Research: "Monitoring Household Coping Strategies during Complex Crises"
This proposal will develop a conceptual framework to monitor household coping strategies and their evolution to continuously adjust to compounds risks and shocks.
To this end, it will:
- Undertake a review to identify the household level coping mechanisms and develop a theoretical economic model of households’ behaviours;
- Suggest and validate indicators to monitor changes;
- Review key UNDP and UNICEF monitoring systems and develop a framework to integrate them;
- Develop guidelines to collect and analyse information on coping strategies.
The framework and indicators will be validated in selected countries and guidelines drawn upon these country case studies.
Also recognising that short term coping behaviour may induce long term harmful consequences for human development, the proposal will seek to develop a set of indicators to measure the severity of a crisis beyond its immediate impact. Therefore, it will further explore the repercussions of the various household coping behaviours on human development outcomes and achievement of the MDGs.
