Big Data Climate Challenge deadline extended

1 min read
Teams from 20 different countries have already submitted projects to the Big Data Climate Challenge, a bold show of interest in the first global competition to bring together the fields of Big Data and climate!

Due to this exciting response, Global Pulse has re-opened the Call for Submissions, welcoming people all over the world to continue submitting projects until the new deadline of 30 June 2014.

The Big Data Climate Challenge was launched on 1 May in support of the Secretary-General’s 2014 Climate Summit in September, which will be held in New York just before the UN General Assembly Week. Winners of the Challenge will be given the opportunity to showcase their projects at the Climate Summit, which will attended by heads of state, CEOs of major corporations and civil society organizations from around the world.

To learn more about the challenge, potential and current participants can join a public Google Hangout on 10 June at 10:00 am EDT. Tracy Raczek from the UN Secretary-General's Climate Change Support Team and Dr. Miguel Luengo-Oroz, Global Pulse’s Chief Scientist, will answer questions and discuss the context of the Challenge as part of the Climate Summit. The Google Hangout will be recorded and available to watch online after 10 June as well.

The Big Data Climate Challenge represents an opportunity for scientists and researchers to share their work on an international stage, engaging world leaders, climate experts and the general public to strengthen global resilience and drive climate action.
