Along with collaborators and partners, UN Global Pulse is involved in a number of events related to the Summit for the Adoption of the Post-2015 Development Agenda and the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 70), including:

Interactive Dialogues at the Sustainable Development Summit

25 September – 27 September (by invitation)

At this historic summit, 193 of the United Nations’ Member States formally adopt the new framework, Transforming Our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, composed of 17 goals and 169 targets to wipe out poverty, fight inequality and tackle climate change over the next 15 years. The agenda of the Summit featured several Interactive Dialogues, to which a number of guest speakers guest speakers from private sector and civil society were invited. High-Level Event: “A Big Data Revolution for Humanitarian Response”

The Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Government of the Philippines, and UN Global Pulse are co-hosting a side event event focused on innovations in using big data for humanitarian response. Held at the Mission of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the event brings together high-level officials, senior executives from the private sector, UN agencies, academia, government, and civil society to discuss two central topics: first, the opportunities that real-time data present, and second, the need for new partnerships and policies to ensure sustainable access to big data and its responsible use. #DataRevolution #HumData

Launch of Global Partnership on Sustainable Development Data

Government representative, private sector executives, civil society organization and international organizations will come together for a political launch of the new “Global Partnership on Sustainable Development Data.” The event will focus on how to achieve the goals of the Global Partnership on Sustainable Development: how data use in sustainable development can be improved and data gaps can be filled, as well as how to build data analysis capacity, leverage existing data, and mobilize resources to facilitate data analysis. The UN Millennium Campaign, UN Global Pulse, and Microsoft, in cooperation with the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data, are hosting an evening reception on the margins of the UN General Assembly to celebrate momentum around a ‘Data Revolution’ for sustainable development. The event will showcase cutting-edge examples of citizen data collection, interactive data visualisations, big data analysis, and creative storytelling projects, including a virtual reality showcase. #DataPlayground #GlobalGoals

“A Big Data Revolution for Development": Demo at the 'We the Peoples' Hub

Tuesday 29 September, 2015 at 2pm – 2:30pm (open to all with UN or GA access passes)

On the heels of the adoption of the SDGs, and on the second day of the UN General Assembly General Debates, Global Pulse will provide delegates with a short presentation on how new sources of real-time data generated by people all over the world – through social media, mobile phones and the use of other digital services – and innovations in data science and public-private partnerships can enable a Data Revolution needed to measure and achieve the new Global Goals. The demo will feature interactive visualizations of global social media about the SDGs and climate issues, as well as innovations emerging from Global Pulse Labs in Uganda and Indonesia.
