Announcing the Data Revolution for Policy Makers Conference

1 min read

UN Global Pulse, through Pulse Lab Jakarta,  will host the International Conference on Data Revolution for Policy Makers on 21 & 22 February 2017 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Individuals are invited to register by 13 February 2017.

The two-day conference, which builds on the conclusions of a previous international event organized in 2014,  will bring together Indonesian and international experts to discuss how new ways of analysing and sourcing data can be used to provide better services for the public.

In 2014, Pulse Lab Jakarta worked with the Indonesian Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas), the Knowledge Sector Initiative and UNDP Innovation to host the International Conference on Data Innovation for Policy Makers in Bali. The conference was organized in response to the call made by the Independent Expert Advisory Group on the Data Revolution for Sustainable Development to provide concrete ways of improving data collection and analysis for sustainable development.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Expanding the Evidence Base: Government Demand for Advanced Data Analytics in Indonesia.” It will bring together over 300 researchers, policy makers, activists and data analysts from the Government of Indonesia, UN agencies, private enterprises, and civil society organisations.

The two-day event will feature plenary sessions with senior representatives from the UN, public and private sectors on six themes: taking stock of the data landscape; taking the pulse?—?applications of real-time data for decision making; the policy side of data innovation; synchronising and sharing data; forging data partnerships; and reconfiguring citizen engagement.

It will include interactive displays of citizen data collection, data visualizations, big data analysis, and impactful storytelling projects. Participants will also be invited to engage in Data Clinics, practical data innovation sessions,  facilitated by data experts to test and discuss innovation projects and their impact for decision-making.

Exhibition booths from ten event partner organisations will also display cutting edge work on data innovation for policy making.
