Big Data for Development in Action – UN Global Pulse Project Series

Abstract

The 20 case studies in this collection demonstrate the progress made in the use of big data and analytics to measure and achieve development and humanitarian goals. Each case study demonstrates how new sources of aggregated digital data from mobile phone usage, social media, or online search could support development and inform humanitarian response. The projects were carried out by UN Global Pulse between 2014-2015 in collaboration with UN Member States, UN Agencies, academic and private sector partners.
