This white paper summarizes the initial findings and lessons learned from a project conducted by UNHCR’s Innovation Service and UN Global Pulse to inform on the viability and value of social media analytics to complement understandings of the Europe Refugee Emergency. The paper outlines the process, questions and methodology used to develop the project and presents preliminary observations on how aspects of the Europe Refugee Emergency are related on Twitter. The paper describes ten quantitative social media mini-studies that were developed as part of the project.
