Building a Big Data Research Agenda for Sustainable Development in Indonesia

(Jakarta, Indonesia) On 10 and 11 October the UN Global Pulse Lab in Jakarta will host a workshop gathering  sector specialists, international researchers and data experts to develop a big data research agenda for development and humanitarian issues in Indonesia for 2017.

The growing utilization of technology in development has encouraged governments, companies, researchers and citizen groups to experiment, innovate, and in general, adapt in this rising age of data.

The workshop aims to identify and collect a list of applied research projects, as well as the necessary collaborations to effect the research. The participants will focus on five topics drawn from five sectors:

• Humanitarian Action – Disease outbreak and surveillance
• Poverty and Vulnerability – Agriculture and production
• Development Planning – Transportation planning
• Urban Issues – Urban sensing
• Sustainable Development Goals – New types of data for the SDGs

Per topic, three experts have been invited to present domain-specific problems, potential solutions and data, followed by a ideation session with the audience to identify other options and collaborations.
