Harnessing Big Data and AI for the SDGs: Getting to Scale in Africa and Asia
6 July, 2018 at 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM EDT
(New York, USA) 2018 marks the third year of implementation of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development along with its 17 goals and 169 targets. Yet, several governments still need access to appropriate data on their populations and particularly the most vulnerable and marginalized people of their societies to fulfil the pledge of the Agenda to leave no one behind.
Harnessing big data and artificial intelligence and complementing this new data sources and technologies with traditional data appear critical to producing the type of information needed for the achievement of the SDGs.
This session will examine inspiring examples of data innovation in the development and humanitarian sectors that have been institutionalized in Africa and Asia.
Participants will hear from speakers working on data innovation and artificial intelligence in the public sector to understand barriers and recommendations for what is needed to shift from proof-of-concept to scalable project applications in these regions and beyond.
