16 March, 2016 at 10:00 AM - 11:15 AM EDT
(UN Headquarters, New York) Social and Technological Innovations play a critical role in achieving gender equality and sustainable development. They have the power to create connections, foster learning, increase economic independence of women and provide life-saving information. They can also help change social norms and stereotypes, and reduce gender inequality. Enhancing the use of enabling technology, in particular information and communication technologies, to promote the empowerment of women is one of the targets, which defines means of implementation for Sustainable Development Goal 5 – Achieve Gender Equality and Empower All Women and Girls. This side-event aims to bring together stakeholders from various backgrounds, from state, non-state and multilateral levels, in order to identify and share ideas and best practices that link social and technological innovations to the empowerment of women and girls, change women ́s lives in technology use, or use innovations to eliminate gender stereotypes or facilitate economic independence of women, bearing in mind that these issues are also highly important for the successful implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (by invitation only.)
