Humanitarian Innovation Jam
21 March, 2016 at 12:00 AM - 23 March, 2016 at 12:00 AM EDT
(Kampala, Uganda) The UNHCR’s Humanitarian Innovation Jam will be held in Kampala from the 21st to the 23rd March 2016. This innovation jam brings together humanitarians, academics, the private sector and around 40 refugees in Uganda to discuss and problem-solve around humanitarian innovation. Participants will work to identify barriers to local innovation and needs of local innovators as well as analyze good practices and tools to support innovators in crisis-affected communities. The event will discuss approaches to humanitarian action and understand how institutions can facilitate bottom-up innovation.
Pulse Lab Kampala will facilitate a session on ‘data in innovation’ challenging participants to think of the different types of data in their communities and how these can be used to find innovative solutions to local problems. Tapping into different data sources can bring a whole new dimension of innovations to refugee settings and crisis-affected communities, ensuring no one is left behind. Participants will also visit Pulse Lab Kampala to learn about the Lab’s innovation process and to see how Big Data and real-time analytics tools are being used to address local problems and contribute to the monitoring and achievement of the global goals for sustainable development.
