ICTs for Protecting and Strengthening Indigenous Languages

(New York, USA) ICTs can serve as a key tool for the empowerment of indigenous peoples, but only when the knowledge and digital economies are accessible in their own languages.

This side event will highlight some existing initiatives to enhance digital inclusion of indigenous peoples through access to ICTs and digital content in indigenous languages and explore how such initiatives could possibly be scaled up to bridge the digital divide and support digital inclusion for indigenous communities.

UN Global Pulse is happy to speak about the radio data analysis tool it has built to transcribe speech into text for local languages, which can then be analysed for topics of interest relevant to the SDGs and Agenda 2030.
