Building on the Haze Gazer platform, CycloMon is an analytics and visualisation platform developed to assist governments in supporting communities prepare for and respond to the impact of tropical cyclones. The platform was developed to monitor social response before/during/after cyclones across 14 countries in the Pacific region. CycloMon’s basic function is to collect, analyse and visualise information from weather satellites on the path of a cyclone, as well as insights from social media on the preparations and impact of the cyclone on communities.
The platform contains three modes to help cyclone monitoring, namely: (1) Normal Mode: to monitor citizens' preparedness to cyclones across 14 countries in the Pacific region, (2) Emergency Mode: to present social media signals from a country affected by a cyclone, along with information on the cyclone itself, and (3) Country specific mode: to provide more detailed historical insights on disaster preparedness and impact from text-, image-, and video-based feeds.
