Description
Turning the Tide: Strengthening Climate Resilience in Pacific Nations Through the Use of Data, AI, and Technological Innovation explores opportunities to strengthen climate resilience and sea level rise adaptation across the Pacific.
Conducted by UNGP Asia Pacific in collaboration with the UNGP Finland Office, the scoping exercise engaged stakeholders across 14 Pacific Island Countries and Territories to better understand the climate challenges facing communities, existing resilience efforts, and opportunities for more anticipatory, inclusive, and locally grounded action.
With sea levels rising at twice the global rate since 1993, the report highlights the urgent need for innovative approaches that can support communities facing increasing risks to livelihoods, infrastructure, ecosystems, and public service delivery. Through consultations with regional partners and stakeholders, the report examines how data, AI, digital tools, strengthened local capacity, and collaboration can help accelerate adaptation and resilience-building efforts across the region.
The report also underscores the importance of inclusive approaches that centre the needs and perspectives of climate-vulnerable communities, including women, youth, persons with disabilities, and remote populations.
This scoping activity was supported by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). The findings aim to contribute to broader regional conversations on how innovation, foresight, and partnerships can help shape more resilient futures across the Pacific.
