The Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) have made significant progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). However, there are still challenges in fully integrating these goals into local and national development policies and plans. Some of the main issues include fragmented governance, limited outreach, and a lack of women in leadership and decision-making roles.
To help address these challenges, UN Global Pulse, together with the UN Multi-Country Coordinator Office for FSM, the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP), and UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is working to strengthen the ability of FSM’s governments at both local and national levels. The focus is on creating tools to promote awareness of the SDGs and helping policymakers and communities incorporate these goals into their plans.
This effort is guided by principles of fairness, human rights, and inclusivity to ensure everyone’s voice is heard, particularly women and underrepresented groups. The aim is to build stronger accountability and transparency to achieve a sustainable future for all.
Our impact
The programme aims to strengthen data systems and digital ecosystems to accelerate progress toward the SDGs, optimize monitoring processes, and maximize the effectiveness of development investments. It also seeks to foster collaborative partnerships between State Governments and Civil Society Organizations, promoting participatory advocacy and inclusive approaches to SDG implementation.
Additionally, the programme focuses on enhancing advocacy capacity by equipping stakeholders with evidence-based tools and strategies to localize and accelerate SDG efforts. These efforts are supported by improved monitoring systems and multi-level governance practices to drive sustainable and impactful development outcomes.
